Torque

  • Designed and built on a hand-shaped, downturned last by Fred Nicole, TORQUE features a durable and comfortable, unlined vegan microsuede upper with an elastic integrated tongue and pull tab. The shape of the toe is ideal for precise footwork. The rubber is thick enough to feel stable but thin enough to maintain sensitivity. The midsole is composed of a proprietary molded board at the outer edges and runs through the center of the toe box creating stiffness. This mountain goat hoof shape allows for flexion in the midfoot while also releasing pressure. The unique single strap velcro closure gives you the freedom to change the direction of tension from ankle to mid-foot area to the base of the forefoot. The outsole is split and features Vibram XS GRIP rubber for durability while including generous toe/heel rubber coverage. The heel rubber extends to the top of the shoe. The unique width of the heel rubber enables this area to have the perfect balance of rigidity for maintaining solid heel hooks while allowing sensitivity and just enough flex. TORQUE is perfect for all your outdoor bouldering needs as well as indoor bouldering - specifically large volume climbing.

REVIEW

Vertige Media -

"So iLL's Torque are a bit like these films that do not make noise when they are released, but become essential once they have been discovered. At first glance, they may not look very different from other climbing shoes. But as soon as we put them on and test them on the wall, we realize that they really have something special to offer."

Create/Design

We’ve spent the last two years (and maybe a little longer) concepting, designing, and sampling with Fred Nicole – a true climbing hero and expert in the field.

Refining

Non-stop meetings with Fred, including joining him in Switzerland, as well as factory visits during line production and frequent, in-depth communication with our manufacturers were imperative to ensure all the details were there.

Testing

It was important to get the technical aspects spot on whether you’re climbing indoors, competing, or out in the elements. Our new shoes models have endured rigorous testing from indoor and outdoor climbers.
